Rooster Killer Gets Jail Time and Probation

A man from Missouri, who was visiting New Smyrna Beach with his family this past July, has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and five years probation for felony animal cruelty. On July 26, in the early morning, he assaulted and killed a rooster that had not provoked him in any way according to video footage from nearby bars on Flagler Avenue. The man, Joseph Aaron Walters, 25, was arrested by police in St. Louis, Missouri on August 8.
