NSB Approves Sale of Historic Woman's Club

Mon, Apr 15, 2024 at 2:35PM

This past week, the New Smyrna Beach City Commission voted to sell the historic Women's Club building on Magnolia Street for $225,000 to the Karter Presley Lynaugh Trust, represented by local entrepreneur Carl Curtis Hodges. Costs to renovate the building are estimated to be more than $3 million.

Since 1989, the building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service. Built in 1926, the building housed The Woman's Club of NSB and has about 4200 square feet of space that has been used by various groups for events throughout the years. Both state and ECHO grants have been awarded to the city to renovate the building, but recent damage has made the project too expensive. The building was sold with the stipulation it retain it's historic character. Discussions included what the future use of the building will include and no decisions have yet to be made.
