The City of New Smyrna Beach has proposed a streetscape project for Washington Street, an important thoroughfare linking U.S. 1 and North Causeway in New Smyrna Beach, that will further elevate the roadway's role within the city's infrastructure.

The proposed project encompasses a comprehensive overhaul, intending to underground power lines, eliminate unsightly poles and other utility structures, improve the aesthetics of streetlights and landscaping, upgrade sidewalks and crosswalks, enhance water main and stormwater infrastructure, and significantly enhance the functionality and visual appeal of the area.

City engineers are organizing a public forum scheduled for Monday, November 20, 2023, at 6 p.m. in the James W. Hathaway Commission Chambers at 214 Sams Avenue to ensure community involvement and gather public opinion on this transformative plan. All community members are encouraged to participate, share their insights, and understand the details of the proposed streetscape project.

Any input received will help formulate a request for contractor bids that will be approved or denied by the City Commission during a future meeting.

For more information regarding this project, contact City Engineer Kyle Fegley via email at kfegley@cityofnsb.com or 386-410-2811.
