In a celebratory event, the Volusia County Council will mark the completion of a brand-new trailhead that will lead trail enthusiasts to the Marine Discovery Center in scenic New Smyrna Beach. A ribbon-cutting ceremony has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31, at the Marine Discovery Center at 520 Barracuda Boulevard in New Smyrna Beach to commemorate the opening of the trailhead and showcase various renovations carried out at the center.

The new trailhead features amenities like restrooms, a water-filling station, and bicycle stands while providing a direct link to the Marine Discovery Center campus, granting visitors easy access to explore the numerous offerings at the center. Recent upgrades to the Marine Discovery Center comprise a craftsman front-entrance pavilion, ADA-accessible features, and extensive enhancements to the native landscaping.

Funding for these significant projects was made possible through the Volusia ECHO program, a citizen-approved initiative. The Volusia ECHO program aims to support projects focused on environmental preservation, cultural enrichment, historical preservation, and outdoor recreational activities throughout the county.

“Volusia County takes immense pride in providing residents and tourists with another opportunity to hop on their bikes and explore one of the many natural treasures in our community. The collaboration of our trail system and the Marine Discovery Center exemplifies what ecotourism is all about," said Volusia County Parks, Recreation, and Culture Director Tim Baylie, expressing Volusia County's pride in offering both residents and visitors a chance to venture into the natural wonders within the community.
