Volusia County officials want to remind residents that daylight savings time resumes at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 13. Therefore, clocks should be turned ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday night.

Volusia County's Fire Rescue suggests that residents change the batteries this weekend in their smoke alarms as they can save lives if functioning properly. Studies do show that most smoke alarms do not work properly because of missing, dead, or disconnected batteries.

For those in need, free smoke alarms are provided by the Fire Department to residents in unincorporated areas of Volusia County.

Daylight savings time also means that Volusia County’s lawn watering schedule changes, and residents can now water their lawn twice a week until standard time resumes November 6.

According to a release, people who live at odd-numbered addresses may water on Wednesdays and Saturdays, people at even-numbered addresses may water on Thursdays and Sundays, and businesses may water on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Irrigation system zones should be watered for no more than one hour or three-quarters of an inch on your permitted day, and watering is not permitted between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Watering restrictions apply to all county residents, including residents in city limits, and to all water sources, including private wells, and pumps.
