The City of New Smyrna Beach has sandbags available to residents ahead of the forecast arrival of Hurricane Ian at the Sports Complex football stadium at 2335 Sunset Drive during the following dates and times:

  • Monday, September 26, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday, September 27, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Staff will be onsite to provide either ten pre-filled sandbags in the stadium’s north vehicle loop or 15 fillable bags at a sand pile in the field south of the main entrance. Residents opting to fill their bags must bring a shovel. Proof of residency is required.

According to a release, electronic signage at U.S. 1 & South Street will direct traffic to the distribution site. A barricade at Sunset Drive & Turnbull Bay Road will be in place to ease the ingress and egress of traffic from the area.
