The building on Tiger Bay Road in Daytona Beach is a training site for Fire Rescue, but it’s about to change. The county plans to renovate and convert the building into a functional fire station with plans that include a two-story addition on the east side of the building.

According to a release, the addition will include new restrooms, lockers, bunks, equipment storage, an emergency operations room, and a room for meetings, conferences, and training.

On Tuesday, the County Council approved a $125,000 contract for the engineering and design of the addition, which Schenkel Shultz Architecture Inc. is performing. When construction starts, it’s estimated to cost one million dollars.

“I think it’s important,” said Councilwoman Heather Post. “This is huge, I think, for those employees and certainly for us moving forward and getting our station well equipped.”
