In a relentless effort to rid the streets of New Smyrna Beach of dangerous drugs, the Crime Suppression Team of the New Smyrna Beach Police Department, led by Detective Hansen, achieved substantial success in recent operations.

On January 2, 2024, at approximately 5:00 PM, Detective Hansen initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle whose driver was known to have a suspended license. The driver, identified as Ty-Lynn Gill, a 26-year-old resident of Ormond Beach, was subsequently arrested for two counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and driving with a canceled/suspended/revoked license. During the same operation, Nicholas Howell, a 29-year-old resident of Daytona Beach, was arrested for a range of charges, including trafficking in fentanyl, delivering/distributing drugs scheduled III/IV, delivering/distributing drugs scheduled I/II, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and possession of cannabis not exceeding 20 grams.

Continuing their efforts on January 3, 2024, at around 2:00 PM, Detective Hansen conducted extra patrols around Circle K at 1801 SR 44. During this patrol, he observed a suspicious interaction between Allina Kirkland-Michaud, and Sarah Ivkovich, who were exchanging substances, prompting Hansen to act. Allina Kirkland-Michaud, a 40-year-old resident of New Smyrna Beach, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, child neglect, drug equipment possession and use, and violation of probation. Inside the vehicle, within arm's reach of a child, law enforcement found Buprenorphine (schedule III-controlled substance), methamphetamine, and fentanyl. Sarah Ivkovich, also a 40-year-old resident of New Smyrna Beach, was found in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana in her purse. She was arrested for possession of marijuana not exceeding 20 grams and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

The New Smyrna Beach Police Department urges anyone struggling with addiction or knows someone who is seeking help to contact the Addiction Treatment National Helpline at (866) 797-0370. The helpline is free, confidential, and available 365 days a year.
