In a dedicated effort to address the pressing issue of homelessness and its far-reaching impact on individuals' lives, the City of New Smyrna Beach proudly announces the extension of a significant grant program, valued at $33,000 to empower nonprofit organizations by providing upfront funding for the procurement of essential goods and services dedicated to supporting homeless and disadvantaged individuals and families within the community through the fiscal year 2023-24.

Homelessness not only deprives individuals of security and stability but also poses significant barriers to accessing employment, healthcare, and other essential resources. Recognizing the urgency, New Smyrna Beach has committed to bolstering support for organizations actively working towards alleviating these challenges. Under this extended grant program, five eligible organizations will receive funding, with each recipient entitled to up to $6,600. Furthermore, organizations are encouraged to submit multiple programs for consideration, amplifying the initiative's potential impact.

Applicants interested in securing funding must present their proposals to the city's Homeless & Disadvantaged Board. To qualify for final approval from the City Commission, applicants must also demonstrate proof of providing services for at least one year. Unlike traditional reimbursement grants, the awarded funding is upfront, designed to establish new services or expand existing ones.

Organizations that have previously benefited from the grant must reapply for consideration for the extended program. Comprehensive details, including eligibility criteria and expenditure reporting procedures, will be outlined in the application.

For those eager to learn more and contribute to this vital cause, applications will be available for request from November 29 to December 15. Interested parties can contact Community Resources Coordinator Irma Terry at iterry@cityofnsb.com or call 386-314-4849.
